LGBTQ2 Parents and Families Urge You to “Have Your Say” About Health & Physical Education Curriculum in Ontario

OTTAWA, ON – November 8, 2018 – Earlier this year, the Ontario Government rolled back the Health & Physical Education (Sex Ed) curriculum to 1998. This outdated curriculum leaves out several topics that are relevant and important to supporting our LGBTQ2 kids, their mental health and well-being, and their safety.

This includes topics like the understanding of gender and sexual diversity, consent, cyber-bullying and developing the tools to tackle the challenges and important realities that our kids face in 2018.

Have Your Say!

As part of the consultation process outlined by the Ontario Government, Pflag Canada is asking LGBTQ2 friends, families and allies to provide feedback on the curriculum by filling out a questionnaire at: pflagcanada.ca/HaveYourSay by Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:59PM EST.

The results will be submitted in an official Ontario-wide Pflag Chapter submission to the Province.

Please share this opportunity with your friends, family and allies on social media using:  #HaveYourSayON

“Both elementary school and high school students need to know it is ok to be LGBTQ2.  Younger students must know it’s natural and normal, and that there are many others like them. This simple message will reassure students, increase acceptance and reduce bullying.”

Bev Belanger, President, Pflag Canada
