As part of our Board Elections held at our AGM on Sunday September 29 2024, the National Board of Directors of pflag Canada are pleased to announce the appointment of Christa Duvall as our new Board President.

The appointment of Duvall has been received with overwhelming support by our network of Chapter Leads across the country; and today’s announcement aligns with pflag Canada’s commitment to providing exceptional resources, peer support, and advocacy for our communities.

“Christa’s commitment to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and pflag Canada is exactly what is needed right now,” says Taylor Henderson, outgoing Board President.  Henderson, who served as Board President since May 2024 and has now stepped back to a Strategic Advisor Associate role with the organization, is confident that the new leadership will continue to advance pflag Canada’s mission.  “I’m grateful to have worked alongside [Duvall] and I know pflag Canada is in great hands with them at the helm, and with full support of the Board.”

Together with the appointment of Duvall to the Board President role, pflag Canada also appointed Stephanie Woolley as the organization’s Chapter Liaison Associate, who will work closely with Duvall in Chapter Lead onboarding and development.

A queer trans woman, Woolley focuses on giving back to her 2SLGBTQIA+ community through leading support groups, providing education and workshops, as an advocate against hate, and for healthcare.  Woolley brings with her a vast experience in providing leadership on many non-profit boards within and outside the community, including as Vice President of Toronto pflag; Vice Chair of the Toronto Trans Coalition Project; and at Captains and Poets.  Woolley is a support facilitator at Toronto pflag, where she founded and leads their first trans support group; is a partner in the transSocial Collective; and is Co-Chair of the Trans Pride Committee of Pride Toronto.

“In response to the renewed challenges our community faces, we have taken proactive steps to support our Chapter Leads across the country, and I’m pleased that our commitment to supporting all 2SLGBTQIA+ Canadians – especially our trans, non-binary, and gender diverse members, their parents, caregivers, and allies – remains steadfast, even with this organizational change.” says Duvall.
