Board Structure Notice

May 21, 2024

As a valued partner in our work within 2SLGBTQIA+ and allied spaces, we are writing to share an important and empowering update.

Yesterday, the Board of Directors accepted the formal resignation of our Board President, Donny Potts, effective immediately; and we want to thank Donny for his work with pflag Canada.

As a result of Donny’s resignation, we held an emergency Board Meeting soon after Donny’s resignation announcement and appointed Taylor Henderson to the role of President.

We understand some of you may have been in regular contact with Donny regarding ongoing or prospective projects, ideas, and campaigns. During this transition, we encourage you to reach out to Taylor (president@pflagcanada.ca) to continue these important conversations.

For our Chapters, it remains business as usual. For our partnerships with you, this change represents a renewed commitment from pflag Canada to rise to the challenges we face today. Our work has always been meaningful, but now we must strive for excellence. Our entire Board is dedicated to aligning with this vision and ensuring our actions reflect our intentions.

In response to the renewed challenges our community faces, we have taken proactive steps to support our Chapter Leads across the country. Our commitment to supporting all 2SLGBTQIA+ Canadians—especially our trans, non-binary, and gender diverse members, their parents, caregivers, and allies—remains steadfast. We have recently partnered with Momentum to equip our teams from coast to coast with the skills necessary to face these challenges head-on.

We are already seeing positive results in various regions. We have 60 engaged Chapter Leads across Canada, and we continue to lead by example with their active involvement in Chapter initiatives. The exceptional work being done at the Chapter level sets a standard for our national Board, and today’s leadership change is a crucial step in ensuring our vision and purpose are fully realized.

We need your support more than ever. Collaboration, guidance, and trust will be vital as we refocus and rededicate pflag Canada into a formidable national force. Our brand holds deep meaning and value, particularly for older generations of queer and allied individuals, and we aim to evolve and grow to meet the needs of our society today.

If you have any questions or inquiries related to this change or any other pflag Canada initiatives, please do not hesitate to reach out. Our goal is to amplify the voices of parents, caregivers, allies, and 2SLGBTQIA+ community members.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we embark on this new era for pflag Canada. We appreciate that you may have more questions, and we will have much more to share in the coming days. We commit to providing an update within the next two weeks and look forward to deepening our relationships with all of you.

Warm regards,
Taylor Henderson,
President – Board of Directors
