pflag Canada joins Egale Canada, Skipping Stone Foundation, Queer Momentum, and others in opposing the Government of Alberta’s invocation of the notwithstanding clause through Bill 9, which removes Charter protections from laws that will:

• Deny transgender youth access to gender-affirming healthcare
• Restrict discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools
• Prohibit transgender girls and women from participating in competitive sports with their peers

This represents an unprecedented attack on the rights and dignity of 2SLGBTQIA+ Albertans, particularly youth.
